How did you first learn about periods?
I learned it through my mom, I think. Wow, this has been a while since I thought about this!
Do you remember your first period conversation? Who was it with and what was that like?
I don’t know if I ever had a period conversation when I was young. But it must have been fine because I don’t have any bad memories of it. Both my parents were scientists so they probably approached it pragmatically as they did with sex like, this is natural and a part of life.
When did you get your first period?
I think I was around 13 years old.
How was it? What happened?
I actually have NO memory of this. Isn’t that wild? I don’t think I’ve ever been asked about it till now!
Do you try to take extra care of yourself while on your period? If so, how?
I do try to take it easy, which is really hard for me because I’m usually going a hundred miles per hour. During my period week, I remind myself that it’s okay to feel like shit and grumpy. So I try to relax with meditation, home spa pampering, and light yoga. Oh and naps. Yes. Naps.
What are your favourite period products?
Pantyliners are a must-have. I use Thinx occasionally. My nixit cup of course, and when I’m not using it Super Plus tampon of Cora. Heat pads.
Is there anything else about your period experiences you want to share?
It is definitely not my favourite time of the month but having cool products to use that alleviate the stress helps tremendously. I’m so happy to see products like nixit being female-founded and led. If men experienced periods, we would have had better products a lot sooner.
Have the last challenging months affected your period and if so, how did you best navigate?
I feel being isolated can affect one’s mental health and overall wellbeing which in turn impacts my stress level and period. I feel my periods have been more irregular in duration and the flow is not as predictable. Also, my muscle aches like neck and shoulder pain have intensified which is a real bummer. I have to keep reminding myself to try to take it easy.
