FAQ
How often should I replace my nixit?
The nixit menstrual cup is made from 100% medical grade silicone and is built to last for years. We think you should trust your judgement on this one - if you notice rips, punctures or any stickiness then you should change it straight away.
Does nixit leak?
No, when inserted correctly, the nixit menstrual cup should not leak. If you are experiencing leaking, try taking your nixit menstrual cup out and reinserting, making sure it touches the back of your vaginal canal before ensuring that it is tucked up behind your pubic bone.
How do I change nixit in a public toilet?
The likelihood of you having to change your nixit menstrual cup in public is small as it will last for up to 12 hours. If you are using a toilet without a sink, we recommend taking a small bottle of water in with you to rinse it, or wiping your nixit menstrual cup clean with some toilet paper and re-inserting. A lot of our customers keep an extra nixit menstrual cup in their bag so that if they are caught out, they can replace their used nixit menstrual cup with a clean one. Either way, you can give it a more thorough wash later when you get home.
Can I use my nixit at night?
Absolutely! You can keep your nixit menstrual cup in for up to 12 hours so you can sleep easy.
Can I have sex while wearing nixit?
Yes you can - go for it!
How do I know if nixit is inserted correctly?
You should not be able to feel your nixit menstrual cup once it is inserted. If you can feel it, try making sure that it is pushed all the way back before tucking it up behind your pubic bone.
How long can I wear my nixit for?
You can wear your nixit menstrual cup for a maximum of 12 hours. Depending on your cycle, you may need to change it more frequently.
Will I see blood?
Probably, yes. We think that’s a good thing - using a nixit menstrual cup means that you get to know your cycle better - the light days, the heavy days and everything in between. It makes you more in tune with your body but it does also mean that you are going to see your menstrual fluid and you may even get some on your fingers. For those who are squeamish, we recommend changing your nixit menstrual cup in the shower at first, until you get a bit more practice with insertion and removal.
Can I wear my nixit while swimming or exercising?
Yes! We think is one of the best things about the nixit menstrual cup . You can feel totally secure whilst swimming or exercising without worrying about strings being exposed or leaking onto your yoga mat.
I’ve heard about menstrual cups getting stuck - will this happen to me?
Unlike traditional menstrual cups, the nixit menstrual cup doesn’t use suction to stay in place. So once you tuck your finger under the rim and pull, it should easily slide out. If you use your pelvic muscles to bear down, this can also help to push the nixit menstrual cup out a bit if needed.
Will nixit fit me?
When being inserted, the nixit menstrual cup is the same size as a regular tampon. Since our cup is soft and flexible, it is easy to insert, no matter your shape or size.
What is nixit made out of?
The nixit menstrual cup is made of hypoallergenic FDA approved medical grade silicone - that’s it!
Where is my cervix?
In a comfortable position, insert your finger into your vagina and move it in a circular motion to feel around the walls, which will feel spongy. Continue to do this, moving your finger up your vaginal canal, until you feel something that feels a bit like a nose, or a nose behind a thin layer of sponge - you found your cervix! The cervix is shaped like a very small donut (or very large cheerio), so as you feel it, you will also feel a dip in the center of it. While you are there, bring your finger tip towards your belly button and you will also feel your pubic bone - this is what you tuck the nixit menstrual cup behind when in use. Bear in mind that your cervix will move throughout your cycle - it tends to be lower when you have your period, so don’t panic if you can’t find it.
My periods are super heavy - will nixit work for me?
A nixit menstrual cup holds up to 70 ml of fluid - that’s more than 4 times what a super tampon holds. We really hope the nixit menstrual cup will work for you - once you get to know your cycle and how often you need to change it, we don’t think you will look back.
Why should I buy more than one nixit?
We love to keep a nixit menstrual cup at work, one at home and one in our handbag, so that we are never caught out! Sometimes we fancy sterilizing a nixit menstrual cup mid cycle so we have a spare one ready, or sometimes if we are out and about we keep a spare in our handbag just in case we need to change it in a public toilet.
Where are nixit menstrual cups made?
The nixit menstrual cup is proudly made in Canada.
Is nixit suitable for teenagers?
Yes, the nixit menstrual cup is suitable for teenagers. It is difficult to say for sure as everyone (no matter their age) is different, but we do have plenty of customers who are teenagers and successfully use the nixit menstrual cup. It is also important to note that the nixit menstrual cup does require you to be quite comfortable with your body to insert it
nixit just isn’t working for me - what can I do?
We’re so sorry to hear that! Please get in touch with us at hello@letsnixit.com - we would love to help you out!
What are the dimensions of nixit?
The nixit menstrual cup is circular and measures 70mm in diameter and holds up to 70ml.
If I have a low cervix will nixit work for me?
Yes. The nixit menstrual cup sits in your vaginal fornix, rather than in the vaginal canal, so it is perfect for users with a low cervix.
How do I clean my nixit?
To clean the nixit menstrual cup, we recommend rinsing it in cold water first when using it during your cycle. Then you can use warm water and un perfumed soap. Before first use and between periods, clean your nixit menstrual cup by placing it in boiling water for 5 minutes. After boiling, place your nixit menstrual cup on an absorbent surface to fully dry. Once completely dry, store your nixit menstrual cup in its bag or box until its next use.
Can I just wash nixit with my nixit wash or do I also need to boil it between cycles?
During your cycle, you can clean your nixit menstrual cup with water and your nixit wash. Once your cycle has finished, we recommend placing your nixit menstrual cup in boiling water for 5 minutes.
The ridge/groove of my nixit needs a more thorough cleaning, what should I do?
If your nixit menstrual cup requires a little extra attention when cleaning around the ridge or groove we recommend gently using a toothbrush (with soft bristles) or soft rag/cloth to do so.
My nixit is slightly stained, is this normal? How do I clean this?
Although not everyone experiences staining with their nixit menstrual cup, it is not unheard of. To avoid staining ensure you rinse your nixit menstrual cup with cold water before using warm water and unperfumed soap for a more thorough cleaning.

Why does blood sometimes come out when I go to the toilet?
The effort of ‘bearing down’ can sometimes move the nixit menstrual cup out from behind the pubic bone. When you stand up, it should tuck back up behind the pubic bone, but it’s probably a good idea to make sure it’s in place before standing up. Some people just bear down (like when having a gentle bowel movement) to empty their nixit menstrual cup in the 12 hour window, rather than completely removing it, and tuck it back once it has emptied.
How can I remove nixit without a mess?
It helps to keep your nixit menstrual cup as level as possible when you take it out. Tilting your hips forward should keep your nixit menstrual cup level to begin with. Also, bearing down (like you are having a bowel movement) can help to gently untuck nixit. The contents can then drain into the toilet before you fully remove it. For the first few times, some nixit users also like practicing in the shower for a less messy experience.
Why is my menstrual cup leaking?
Leaking is often the result of your menstrual cup not being fully inserted or tucked into place. Firstly, it's helpful to think of pushing your menstrual cup back and down (rather than up like a traditional cup or tampon). Do not be afraid to push your menstrual cup as far back as you can when inserting. Try and aim towards your tailbone and focus on keeping it parallel to the ground (this helps it to get it back and down).
I still can’t get it to work - help!
The key to inserting your nixit menstrual cup is to focus on pushing it back and down. Try pushing it back and down with your thumb if you are currently using your forefinger - this can really help with getting the right angle. If you’re having trouble, set it aside for a few minutes to give your muscles a chance to relax before trying again. Whatever position you are in, relaxation is key!
Is there a risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (‘TSS’)?
With all period care products, there is a risk of TSS, but this is extremely small for menstrual cup users. Medical grade silicone is non-porous and therefore resists bacterial growth (unlike absorbent tampons which can create a breeding ground for bacteria). Nevertheless, you should always follow the care and cleaning instructions for your nixit menstrual cup and always make sure your hands are clean for insertion and removal.
Is nixit a contraceptive?
No! Although the nixit menstrual cup looks a lot like the contraceptive diaphragm, it is designed to keep blood in, not sperm (or STIs) out. Please trust us on this one.
How do I clean my nixit?
You can sterilize your nixit menstrual cup by placing it in boiling water for 5 minutes. After boiling, place your nixit menstrual cup on an absorbent surface to fully dry. Once completely dry, store your nixit menstrual cup in its bag or box until its next use. During your cycle you can clean your nixit menstrual cup with water and unperfumed soap or our nixit menstrual cup wash.
Can I use nixit if I have an IUD?
The nixit menstrual cup is safe to wear with an IUD when used as directed, but we do recommend consulting with your physician before first use regarding your particular IUD.
Is nixit safe for women with endometriosis?
Yes, the nixit menstrual cup is safe to use and it’s also great for a heavy flow as it holds up to 70ml.
What if I have a latex allergy?
There is no latex in the nixit menstrual cup so it is safe to use with your allergy. However, it is important to note that latex gloves may occasionally be involved in the handling and packaging of your product.

The Wheel Method
"Pinch the nixit menstrual cup in half and insert it while pointing it slightly downward. Once it’s in as far as you can insert it without it starting to fold up and get all wonky on ya, start just pushing one side so that it rotates like a wheel and rolls right on in there! I usually feel both sides to make sure it isn’t folded funny, and if so, just pull it out a smidge and try rolling it in again. Once inserted use a finger press on the rim of the nixit menstrual cup , sliding the front towards the back just to get it in a little more - push the front of it behind the pubic bone, and tadahhh!"
The Thumb method
"I pinch along the nixit menstrual cup as I insert (instead of just pinching the middle). It helps me get the nixit menstrual cup further inside past the entryway muscles and that made a huge difference because then I couldn’t feel it after insertion (I was feeling it before)."
The sideways method
"I turn my nixit menstrual cup to the side by rotating it 90 degrees so the opening of the cup is facing sideways. When it is half way in, turn it like a key back so that the opening is facing upwards. This works so well for me!"
Just Breathe
"I wasn't getting my nixit menstrual cup pushed in all the way and properly tucking under my cervix and that's why it would slip out sometimes. I noticed that once the nixit menstrual cup was almost all the way in, I would tense up. So I needed to stop and relax and breathe and then I was able to push in the nixit menstrual cup all the way in and it stayed in place, tucked behind my pubic bone."
Two Hands
"The tip that worked best for me was to use two hands to keep the fold, and push it against the side of your vagina before letting it open, then tucking it under the pubic bone."
