Menstrual cups have been around since the 1930’s and they’re slowly becoming more of a popular period care choice. We’re seeing people from all over the world make the switch, embracing the cup way of life, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

With more people changing their period product preferences, we’ve noticed that questions surrounding cups are on the rise. One of the more common ones is this—how long can you leave your menstrual cup in for?

To put this into perspective, both pads and tampons require frequent changing for several reasons. With pads, you want to avoid leaks, prevent too much moisture accumulation, and avoid discomfort. With tampons, you may be unsure about how much fluid they hold, want to avoid vaginal dryness, and definitely want to prevent toxic shock syndrome (TSS).

For all of these reasons, it's advised that both pads and tampons be changed every 4-6 hours, depending on flow. Several publications such as  Healthline  and the  FDA  strongly advise against using either product for more than 8 hours at a time; especially tampons.

So, we get it. Having all this information on your mind during period days can add to your stress, and we don't want that. That brings us to cups, so here’s the good news: unlike most other period products, cups can be used for up to 12 hours! Yes, you read that right!

Most cups come in different shapes and sizes , ranging between 24-30ml, while the nixit menstrual cup holds up to a whopping 70ml! Surprising, we know, compared to the biggest tampons that hold less than 20ml.

So if you’re ready to make the switch, or if you’ve already switched and want to make the most of it, you've got to try nixit! (for up to 12 hours at a time).
