FAQ
What are FSA and HSA accounts?
Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Pre-tax dollars set aside via employer-sponsored plans for eligible healthcare expenses.
Funds typically forfeit at year-end under "use it or lose it" unless the plan allows carryover (up to $660 for 2026) or a 2.5-month grace period. Confirm rules applied to your plan to avoid forfeiture.
Health Savings Account (HSA): An individually owned savings account for qualified medical care expenses (prescription and eligible non-prescription/over the counter or OTC items). Funds roll over year-to-year indefinitely with no expiration; non-qualified withdrawals incur taxes and penalties.
How do I know if a product is HSA or FSA eligible?
As of March 2020, the CARES Act expanded FSA/HSA eligibility to include menstrual products like cups, discs, pads, tampons, and liners. At nixit, all period care products are HSA and FSA-eligible under this legislation. If you’re curious if the products in your cart are eligible or if your HSA/FSA card purchase was declined, we recommend:
- Checking your health plan documents or calling your FSA/HSA administrator.
- Using Flex checkout, which automatically generates compliant documentation.
- Keeping your itemized receipt in case your administrator requests verification.
How do I utilize the HSA or FSA discount with my personal bank card?
If you don’t have your HSA or FSA card handy, you can pay with your personal bank card, save your receipt, log into your FSA/HSA provider account and submit a reimbursement claim. If the items you purchased are eligible, you should receive money back via direct deposit into your bank account.
What is Flex’s relationship with nixit?
nixit has partnered with Flex to allow you to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
This means you can now use your HSA or FSA debit card to buy nixit FSA/HSA eligible products with pre-tax dollars instead of out of pocket.
Why can't I see Flex as a payment method?
The key here is to make sure you are logged out of ShopPay. One of the easiest ways to do this is to checkout as a guest.
Why is my HSA/FSA card being declined?
HSA/FSA cards are debit cards, and the most common reason for declines is insufficient funds. Reach out to your HSA/FSA administrator to confirm your balance.
I submitted my Flex itemized receipt for reimbursement, and my FSA requires more information.
If you’re having trouble with your purchase or reimbursement, you should first contact Flex and explain your issue. They offer various options for contacting their support team that can assist with any additional information required.
How do I get reimbursed if I pay with a regular credit card instead?
- Complete your purchase and select "Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA" at checkout
- Enter your regular credit card information
- Flex will automatically email you an itemized receipt
- Log in to your FSA/HSA account portal (or use your administrator's app)
- Submit the receipt under "Reimbursement Request" or "File a Claim"
- Allow 2-4 weeks for processing (varies by administrator)
Tip: Save your receipts and confirmation emails until reimbursement is complete.
Help! I didn't receive an email from Flex with my itemized receipt and/or letter of medical necessity. What should I do?
Please check your spam folder, as sometimes emails from notifications@withflex.com may be automatically filtered as spam by some email service providers. If you still can’t find it, please email support@withflex.com and let them know the email address associated with your order.
I would like to use multiple HSA/FSA cards to pay for my feminine hygiene products. Can I do that?
No, unfortunately, this isn’t a supported feature right now. If there are insufficient funds in a single HSA or FSA account, you can instead enter a credit card on the Flex checkout page. You will receive an itemized receipt and/or Letter of Medical Necessity from Flex, which you can submit for reimbursement.
